two days ago, the remains of missing Air Force pilot Lt. Col Alton C. Rockett Jr, missing in action from the Vietnam War, were buried at Arlington National Cemetery. he was shot down in 1967.

i was 3.

three sets of remains were repatriated by the Vietnamese government in 1989. it took the military until 2006 to identify the third set, those of Col. Rockett; that identity process included two separate trips back to Vietnam looking for evidence and eyewitness testimony related to the crash.

and aside from the completely baffling mis-statement that Medecins Sans Frontiers is known in english as "The French Doctors" - instead of what it's *actually* known as, Doctors Without Borders - it's a good read, if a bit surreal.
