I love reading your blog. you bring up the coolest things, and you make me think.
Here's a ponderance. A lot of folks dont have much knowledge of the Civil War, exept for people who have ancestors that were killed or wounded in battle. Grandpa Shaver, Battle of Chickamauga, GA.
Who knew that there was a battle there? when I found out, I hit google and actual history books, and DAMN.
isn't it wacky how much about our own history we don't really know. and i don't mean just the HUGE dren that people should know, but the little details that add humanity and context and depth to the journey of how we got to today. so many people bitch and moan that it's so damned horrible and corrupt and blah blah blah today, and if they'd spend just a little time seeing what life was like in this country all along its history, they'd get some perspective. there is plenty that's broke, but there's plenty that's working beautifully as well.
we really are the Great Experiment, with an emphasis on what the latter word truly means. it's both our strength and our weakness, but it is most certainly the source of our freedom.
