the roomie and i have been rewatching season one of VM. the ep where Logan and Veronica get caught by Aaron necking on the sofa. Aaron was so genuinely sweet to them both, and then when Dick and Cassidy show up Aaron helps Logan cover up Veronica's presence, and then gives Veronica a ride home. the conversation in the car that follows is Aaron genuinely concerned how Logan's doing, and seems to be honestly happy that Logan has found someone, and not in a creepy way.

so..the wonder...not that Aaron isn't capable of murder, especially given his behavior with Veronica in the season finale, but....what if Aaron really didn't kill Lilly?

think about what's been going on with Aaron this season; Logan destroys the tapes, the only evidence that gives Aaron an actual motive; the fact that there continues to be a running subplot about Aaron at all, and that it's Aaron continuing to profess his innocence.

i mean, if you simply want to keep Aaron in the mind of the viewers for some reason, why do it that way if Aaron really killed Lilly? there's no witnesses to the murder. Aaron didn't seem that heated when he confronted her by the pool. why would he go for a heavy ashtray when he could have simply punched her? or for that matter, intimidated her, or hell, seduced her again? we only have Veronica's perception of the event. also, rewatching the scene in the car right now, Aaron again didn't seem that heated prior to when Veronica crashed the car. granted, there's still Aaron's assault on the homeowner, and of Veronica and of Daddy Mars, but i'm wondering if that came from the rage triggered? and no where in his monologuing when Veronica's in the freezer did Aaron ever admit to actually killing Lilly, just that he wasn't going to let a 17yr old ruin his life. and then he doesn't light the gasoline until he needs to get away, and then he tells Keith she's in the freezer. he didn't have to. granted, Keith could have still found her, but Aaron still didn't have to. he used it as a diversion.

so then, if Aaron really didn't kill Lilly, and Lilly had "a secret", what if the secret was something else? and of course, i'm thinking of Mayor Inapropriate Touching here. consider how Veronica was portrayed prior to Lilly's death, how sweet and naive. i don't know that i believe Lilly would have told Veronica about sleeping with Aaron.

and randomly, i miss Logan's inspirational messages.

also? everyone should have a pitbull named Backup.

I'm totally new to this show, but here's my random shot at the question. I think that if Aaron wasn't the killer, Veronica would have continued to have dreams with Lilly pushing her towards the answer.

not if Veronica thought she solved the murder.

yes, because that's Veronica's subconscious putting the pieces together.

and yes, you so do.

and the bus crash? there's no way that her subconscious would have known that the bus was going to crash...

Lilly has nothing to do with the bus crash. i don't get what you mean.

and by "nothing", i'm referring to Veronica's visions of Lilly in the first season, not whether Lilly's "secret" is somehow tied to the bus crash.

in the season 2 premiere, on the way back to Neptune - while the bus was stopped at the gas station, veronica heard lilly's voice call her name and say "Come on" and then saw her ghost go around the corner. She followed, goes around the corner, where she sees weevil and they have their little tiff. In the meanwhile, Meg tells the teacher that everybody's on the bus and the bus leaves, sans Veronica.

well, that actually helps make my theory not disprove it.

not having seen 2.01 since it aired, i don't know if it was dead!Lilly, but if it wasn't, then i'm going with my theory could still be plausible.

whenever Veronica saw dead!Lilly, that was V's subconscious pushing her towards answers, working out the problem in her head.

if, at the gas station, it's not dead!Lilly, then it's not dead!Lilly because Veronica no longer feels that Lilly's death is unavenged. Veronica believes that Aaron killed Lilly, and the tapes and his actions certainly lend solid credence to that belief, but she's no longer searching for Lilly's killer because Veronica believes she's found him. thus, she isn't going to be having dead!Lilly visions.

however....if somewhere in the back of V's mind she knows something else is up, or she saw something or heard something but doesn't realize the significance, it's still going to be in her subconscious because the mind is a perfect recorder....and if Lilly's somehow involved in that, ie: something other than Aaron was "the secret", then that could be why Veronica "saw" Lilly.

and of course, i could be totally wrong, but it's all just kind of strange.
