"not easily predictable" d'ya think? Why does everything have to be a thinly veiled stab at whoever is in office? If the novel stands on it's own, then the critic should have the cajones to stand on their own as well... and I think H. would have hated the Patriot act as well, for over-reaching with little result, but what he would have made of the internet? Yeah, who knows...

i think what i liked most about the commentary was don't try to reach back into the past and project your political intent on someone else. i mean, we can speculate on what we think someone may believe based on their artistic output, but absent them speaking as themselves how do we know? i don't necessarily dispute that Heinlein would/could/may have voiced opposition to the Patriot Act but he's dead, and we can't ask him, and isn't that damned convenient? and i appreciate that this guy went to the source, the man's private letters, later made public of course, that censure a friend for being a dumbass in a time of war. perspective is an amazing thing, and too many times we conveniently choose to ignore it.
