good job, travellers.

what a dumbass. he's lucky that subduction didn't include a de-pressurized door.

Probably kept the guy from getting too roughed up. I firmly believe that nobody will ever successfully hijak a large plane in this country ever again.

i'm old enough to remember when flying was something really special. my brother and i had to wear suits and ties when we got on a plane. now, lower prices mean anybody can now fly hither and yon.

i'm all for licenses, or some kind of certificate that says, "yep, based on certain criteria, according to our records, this person's generally ok to purchase a ticket and get on a plane", or some other seal of approval. (uh, i'm kidding...sort of)

how's it go: you need a license to drive, but any damn fool can (insert appropriate really important priority).... tdr

don't.

just the ramblings of someone who has been on too many flights into washington reagan or dulles airport. they always make this announcement about being 30 minutes from landing and no one is to get up from their seats until the plane is parked. this message is preceded several times by messages about how when the plane is 30 minutes out from landing you're not to leave your seat. without fail after the last announcement is made someone gets up and everyone else gets panicked. twice i've seen the offender tackled in the aisle.

my first (but not only) thought is: fool.

asps. very dangerous. you go first.

i liked your driver's license analogy, and yet...we aren't flying the plane. passengers in cars don't need a license to get a ride, nor do those in a bus, on a train, or hell, eating at a restaurant or drinking in a pub. i don't have a problem with someone searching my bags ad nauseum. big plane, lots of fuel, very high altitude and many people. it's all good.

i do, however, have a HUGE problem with the notion of some kind of pre-screening/approved list of flyers. so when i said i was thinking of how to respond, i meant what you said because it reminded me of stuff i'd been reading.

the other problem i have is the belief that, in high probability, those guys aren't gonna use planes the next time. they've done that already. they're planning something else and we're digging in the wrong place.
