CHILD: Mom, do you have an Altoid?

MOM: Yes, I think so. Look in my purse.

CHILD: I don’t see any.

MOM: Oh, I thought I had some.

CHILD: LYING BLOODTHIRSTY MONSTER!

I happen to think the next nuclear conflict will be between India and Pakistan, but that's just me. I thought we were marginally justified to be in Iraq because of the gas Saddam has used against the Kurds. Mustard gas, I think. Not so much biological weapons and not nuclear weapons of mass destruction. Nearly any group with money can buy the ingredients for a dirty bomb somewhere in the world on the black market. If Iraq had these things, they certainly had plenty of warning we were coming; I believe the president said several times on TV we were going to invade. Shock and awe, Plenty of time to move alot of stuff to Syria. I don't know. Nothing was found. Anywhere.

As long as the Sunnis and Shias can't see eye-to-eye, there's little we can do permanently. I say, cut our losses and pull out. Look to North Korea or India/Pakistan next. What difference does it make what I think? The government doesn't listen to me.

no smoking gun certainly, and with all that time Hussein had plenty of warning to move it. part of the collateral from diplomacy.

if France had taken that view when we were at war with the British, we'd be a colony still. if we had taken that view during the Civil War, this nation wouldn't stand.

Except for the Pax Romanus, when the world was smaller, I don't think there has been peace every where for very long. Whether it's the Sunnis and Shias, Hindus and Muslims, Catholics and Protestants or any other conflicted peoples, I think as long as men are angry with one another for religious reasons, slights real or implied, disparity in income or whatever; there will never be real peace anywhere. The US can't make everything right and fair for everyone everywhere. I guess I'm saying we have to pick our battles and this particular one, in my opinion, isn't as important. Saddam is caught. His sons are dead. Perhaps, if a more democratic government could be installed and stay in business, Iraq could stabilize the area, but I don't see that happening.

the security of the middle east is crucial to the security of the world. we supposed to walk away because the rest of the world won't step up to the plate? we aren't, btw, losing.
