several links at Instapundit about the war and Jihadism.

i especially recommend the link he includes from Evan Maloney, where Maloney quotes an article from this Sunday's Washington Post - not so much a bastion of supporting the Bush Administration, mind - on current content in children's school books in Saudi Arabia.

"Bush hid his nefarious agenda in plain view! That bastard!
... Wasn't it Cavour who said that the way to lie to diplomats is to tell the truth, since they will never believe that? I guess it's not just for diplomats."

the sophisticated are confounded by simplicity, and surprised by idealism...

Interesting about the content of Saudi schoolbooks... I'd have to believe that most US people assume that the Saudi children will be as dissaffected by school as we are, and not believe the strictures. Right or wrong is less important than that some percentage of kids raised saudi will believe, and will act, against anyone outside. Indeed, sadly they have already done so...

i'd agree but i think the cultural differences lend themselves to the Wahabbism way versus kids the natural tendency of kids to blow stuff off. certainly there will be cases of kids that call a spade a spade, and i think the internet will, hopefully, influence that as their kids get more access to the outside world, but as long as the culture remains whole magnitudes more closed than ours, i'd think those kids are pretty much screwed.
