I'm all for freedom of speech, but part of me is down with (what I've heard is) a German law that makes it a crime to deny the existance of the holocaust.

i'm all for free speech as well, and if he wants to walk around saying he thought they deserved it, that's one thing. but for a sitting member of my government - a government whose soldiers liberated Nazi concentration camps - to deny their existence is stunning and, really, utterly unforgivable. i'm kinda hopin' i'll run across his sorry ass while he's campaigning. he'll get a delightful lesson in free speech, and possibly the definition of penal code section 242.

I can never figure out exactly why it is that people in anyway minimize what happened there. The records exist, because the Nazis were too meticulous, so why not leave it alone? Even the most conservative number is over 5 million, and that isn't an estimate that is based on actual records. Why do the revisionists care? You have to resort to conspiracy theories to get the numbers down, and the numbers are STILL high. It's pretty hard to doctor photographs like that, and the mass graves... :shudder: They don't bother trying to apologize their way out of the Russian POWs killed in their millions, because hey, who cares about them? They are not a political hot button. So I wonder what this sushi for brains thinks about the Khmer Rouge. Oh wait, he doesn't have an agenda against Cambodians, so those numbers must be right.

The sad thing is that even if we got 100 survivors, with family pictures of their dead kin to stand at his rally, he would probably just weasel his way out of it by saying "I'm not saying it didn't happen..." Yeah? If it happened, the exact numbers are irrelevant... It's a free country, he can think and say what he wants, but an elected person represents everyone in his district, not just the party. Hopefully he is opposed by someone good, who will simply trounce him...
