Yeah. There's some awesome stuff there, but I've only really read Never Promise and Bastard Saints, so those are the recs from me. But Barkley rocks so I'm pretty sure the rest will rock, too.

*waves to [livejournal.com profile] kernezelda*

I really, really do keep meaning to write a recs post, but every time I start, I get distracted by actually *reading* the fic I want to rec, and then suddenly it's hours later, and the recs post is still blank. *g*

Anyway, a resounding *yes* to all those authors Kerne recommended. (Especially ignipes (especially The Language of This Foreign Country), and trollprincess (especially Some Sounds You'll Sleep Through), and marinarusalka (Especially Bargains and Between the Lines), and... Um, I'd better stop before I end up just repeating the whole list above. *g*)

Just a warning, though -- I'd say pretty much all of those writers (with one or two exceptions) have written at least one wincest fic. They usually label stories carefully, though, so if you pay attentions to the warnings you should be safe. And their gen stories are *excellent*.

A few other recs:

Pretty much *anything* written by [livejournal.com profile] alethialia, but especially You Get What You Give (OMG! I *love* this story!), A Stand-Up Man, and Status Quo.

[livejournal.com profile] onelittlesleep's But I Never Could Sharpen No Blade, Quite the Way He Say, Pray to God I See Headlights, and I've Been Everywhere, Man (in no particular order, although I like the first one the best). She also has a pre-series story that is very well-written, but has a 19-year-old Dean teaching a 15-year-old Sam how to shoot and clean guns, apparently for the very first time, soI just can't rec that one -- it interferes with my internal view of these characters too much.

Also, I definitely second Kerne's rec of On the banks of the Tiber and Field of Mars. (Especially Field of Mars, but you should read them both.)

And it was recced on [livejournal.com profile] barkley's post that [livejournal.com profile] boofadil
already linked to, but I just wanted to say that In Reverse was one of the first Supernatural fics I read, and after I was done reading all the 17 parts that were up at that point, it left me with my head humming, and such a strong feeling of need-more-fic-nownow*now* that it's only now beginning to dissipate, about a month later. It's a WIP, though, and not updated very often. I don't know if you want to see if it gets finished first before reading it.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] shrift had a post asking for recs that had quite a few good recs in the comments.

And I've been collecting fics I like in my memories, in preparation for that recs post that I keep not writing. They are pretty heavily biased towards Stanford/Pre-series fics, because I find that I have a weakness for fics like that (and also, the recs post was supposed to be for pre-series fics), but towards the end of the list, I started adding other stories as well.

... And I should post this comment now, because otherwise I will probably keep going forever, and that will be no help to you. *g*

heh. you chatty girl, you.

well, shyeah. canon has Sam getting handed a gun by his dad when he was 12. i HIGHLY doubt John Winchester kinda forget to show Sam how to use it.

I'd say pretty much all of those writers (with one or two exceptions) have written at least one wincest fic. They usually label stories carefully, though, so if you pay attentions to the warnings you should be safe. And their gen stories are *excellent*.

oh, i don't mind if they write it, i just don't know who's who enough to know who's worth reading the gen/het of. but once again, my flist kicks ass.

And I've been collecting fics I like in my memories

exxxxxxxxxxcellent.

Hee. Sorry. I do tend to get too wordy when I'm excited about something. ;)

canon has Sam getting handed a gun by his dad when he was 12.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that according to the pilot, his dad gave him a gun when he was 9. (To defend himself from the closet monster, which has given rise to at least one Monsters, Inc. crossover that I know of. ;) ) But yes. Exactly. *g*

I have no problem with Sam being the more protected one in the family. It's pretty clear from canon that he was. But not *that* protected. He still hunted with his family, and he could still use weapons and defend himself from an age way younger than 15.

Still, her other stories are really good, which is why this story surprised me so much.
