they should be doing stories on alcoholism awareness anyway, not trying to hide their catty "oh look what he did" point-and-mock story behind alcohol awareness. that dren makes me livid. everyone whines about how they shouldn't be treated any different than us when it comes to stuff like this, to which i reply, then STOP DOING IT, ya fucktards. oi.
yes! if they want to talk about important issues, then do it. don't wait for some poor sap to fuck up and then exploit it for ratings or whatever. that pisses me off.
in the same vein (okay a similar vein) this new world trade center movie kinda pisses me off. i'll have to see it i guess to really make an opinion, i just feel that with movies like that and the flight 93, etc, that hollywood is totally trying to profit off of the deaths of 3000+ innocent people. /random rant
re the films, normally, i'd agree with you. with Flight 93, the director went to great lengths to make the film as absolutely documentarial (?) as possible. he made no statements, used actual personnel in their original roles wherever possible, and generally tried to be as honest as he could be in the telling of an important story. he should in no way be faulted for that. the event is important.
with Stone, my initial inclination was yours, and my overall one is still yours - to exploit this is the worst kind of fucked - however from the multiple reviews that i've read, and from people that are no fans of Stone's films, and to my absolute shock, he seems to have gone to great lengths to make a proper, non-exploitive film; again, trying to tell the important story because it matters.
yeah, i mean, i haven't seen any of these films. i saw the preview for world trade center yesterday when i went to see lady in the water. it made me cry...the preview, not litw.

i heard that as well. i'm sure i'll see both movies at some point, but i don't know when. part of me thinks we should show things like that and the footage of that day every. bloody. day.
trying to tell the important story because it matters. yes. exactly.
as long as they do so honestly, and with integrity, then making these films is important. but yeah, i'm the first to get nutted up about a project that sounds like it's even *remotely* exploitive.
