Robert Cox has thoughts on Lieberman as an Independent.

i say "Go Joe", and Robert speaks truly.

and before anyone goes ballistic over Lieberman's reproductive rights issues in his home state and how dare i support the guy, let me clarify. i say "Go Joe" regarding his thoughts on partisanship within parties and how destructive it is. i don't know enough about the issue in Connecticut regarding reproductive rights to speak on it with any kind of confidence, although Ann Althouse hosted an interesting discussion about the vitriol surrounding it here. the comments make interesting reading as well.

heh... independents, a thorn in the side of the 2 party system. had this discussion several times over the possible defeat of gore or kerry based on people voting for a 3rd party. my answer has always been: the republicans have to beat 2 parties to win, so do the dems, so do the indys. If you can't do that, then you don't win. it's not that difficult. a lot of indys vote for who they perceive the best person to be in what ever race. again, why is that hard?

on the other issue, I can see the questions, and not one is easy... but I am constantly mystified by people who chose an outcome they desire, and then pound everyone until they either agree or are the 'enemy'. I mean yeah we should definitely make sure that everyone that has a different point of view about reproductive rights, is demonized until they are satan himself. I guess it doesn't help me much to point out that both sides of that question use identical tactics. Or that it's potentially 50x easier to get planB sold over the counter as recommended now by the FDA, than to force the question in every hospital and pharmacy, in every state. You make this a non-issue by making the government NOT interfere. Making a law for every little thing, just means that those things are now dictated, rather than being choices... IMHO...

i don't see them as a thorn in the side at all. i think they're very crucial, even in a two party system because nothing is one size fits all.

yes, this.
