Feb. 1st, 2005 08:05 pmthe problem with aging, other than the obvious gripes, is that everyone ages with you, in direct proportion of course. like parents. like a parent that, in a sanity-saving measure, you cut out of your life long years ago. like said parent that then has the effrontery to be dying, rather unpleasantly it seems. my brother apparently knew, as he was in Vegas today and was leaving this evening to catch a flight back to Michigan. guess telling me was rather too grown up a task for him. in his defense perhaps, i don't know that i'd tell me either, but i certainly expected him to tell my mom, who would then tell me cuz she's got balls of steel like that. there i go thinkin'. instead, i got the call from his caregiver of 3 years, who, judging by the phone call, sounds like an amazingly compassionate woman. but then you'd have to be to do that job, wouldn't you? so i find myself conflicted, not a little numb and planning an unscheduled road trip this week.
and so it goes.
and so it goes.

Feb. 1st, 2005 10:00 pma not quite mea culpa.
the "glimpse" was caught because the MSM finally decided to cover the flip side. wacky, that. as to us forcing a "brave new world" on the Iraqis, nobody looked like they had a gun to their head going to the polls on Sunday - a process that put their lives very literally in danger - or when they were displaying ink-stained fingers for photographers with smiles on their faces. and yes, there is a very real possibility that the Iraqis may choose to not be a friend or ally to the US post their final government elections. but that would then be the legitimate choice of the Iraqi people, not one of dictators and terrorists. all the difference in the world.
But on Sunday, we caught a glimpse of the flip side. We could finally see signs that a majority of the Iraqi people perceive something to be gained from this brave new world we are forcing on them.
