Date: 2006-09-13 12:20 am (UTC)you can also check out eBay, under horse tack, Arab costume. :)
and, umm. there are many different styles of "native" Arab costumes. there's Hollywood style, which most people think of first, but then there's more authentic-y Bedouin-like Syrian costumes too.
lemme find you pics.

Date: 2006-09-13 12:26 am (UTC)the ladies' skirts aren't flowing enough to ride in, and the man's robes would be worn over trousers, but they might give an idea. anyway, if you think your co-worker is trustworthy, i would be happy to lend them to her if they would help with pattern-making, etc. :)

Date: 2006-09-12 04:10 pm (UTC)I looked up a site the other day, but I can't find it now. They had *original*original costumes, and the prices were about $2500. That ended my whim on getting James one just because he'd look cute in in. Er, handsome, I meant handsome.

Date: 2006-09-12 04:43 pm (UTC)more than slightly crazymustangs who used to be Indian ponies!Check out the sites I liked to - they have saddle sets for about $500, which is cheap as far as I'm concerned. (She says, who needs a new dressage saddle and wants a Stubben or a Passier, owwwwwww.) You can still dress him up! And it will be better than Tris's hot pink saddle pad, so he can commiserate with James about that. *g*

Date: 2006-09-12 05:14 pm (UTC)What dressage saddle do you have now? I got a Devocoux about 2 years ago, and LOVE IT, LOVE IT.
How long have you been riding dressage? And how did you get your horse?

Date: 2006-09-12 05:53 pm (UTC)I'm just stuck on the Passier brand general, my AP is an old Passier and I adore it beyond measure. But Stubben makes a saddle called the Tristan, and, well...yeah. I'm shallow. *g* Eh, we'll see, I'll probably try out many many used saddles and end up with what works best for both of us.
I've been riding dressage for about two years now. I did hunters growing up and for a year in France in college. I got Tris...hmmm...he's an eleven year old mustang, wild until he was four, adopted at the age of five to a farm in New York. He was then at the very least severely neglected for the next five years, possibly abused, eventually seized by the state and sent to a rescue in Maine, where I met him when I was working there the summmer after college. He was given to me as a training project because he was scheduled to be adopted by someone as a pasture ornament (he is a very, very striking bay roan, as you can see in the icon), but that fell through and I fell in love. He came to me January 2 just barely knowing how to lead. (Most of my work the summer before had been getting him to trust me enough not to bolt if I looked at him. I'd ridden him in a sidepull and old Wintec 4-5 times at the walk, because he's a sweetheart when he wants to be, but nothing that can actually be called training.)
Although I think my strictly dressage career will be a short-lived one, as we started Tristan over fences about two weeks ago and he LOVES IT. So I'm currently considering a second career as an eventer. I'm going to diiiiiiiie.

Date: 2006-09-13 10:57 pm (UTC)That is so great that you fell in love! That is the best way to find a riding partner, even if they're 'difficult.' And he is very beautiful. I wish you two a long and happy partnership.
And that's really cool that you got to go to France in college.
My horse wasn't exactly abused, but when I got him he wasn't exactly being trained with classical dressage methods (that's the nice version), and it was obvious he was not handling it well. *hugs him on principle* We've had an interesting and hard road, but it's been so worth it.
BTW, growing up, I was generally trail riding, and being wild. I think we hand hunter lessons two or three times, but we generally lived in the middle of nowhere, so really only did 4-H.

Date: 2006-09-13 06:44 am (UTC)I *think* there's an online classified, too, which would have costumes for sale at lower cost.
Lemme know what you need and I'll look 'round.

Did a quick Google search and that's the first few. I like the third site. I can put out feelers locally, too, as Scottsdale is a major Arabian hub, but I need to know more about what she wants and how serious she is.
