as a side note, I think it interesting how much coverage was given to how much violence there would be if he was sentanced to death... would anyone reasonably assume there would be no violence if he was aquitted? It would probably be worse, actually, there really isn't a case where things wouldn't be ugly.

yes, but that gives them a way to report on the verdict without actually doing anything that might be construed as telling the truth or supporting the Bush Administration. talking about the potential violence lets them still get their digs in and blame the US.
