a bunch of Dead White Men fought and died because they believed those words were true, and that the people, the average, everyday, non-aristocratic people, were smart enough to determine the course of their nation.
i happen to think they were right.
go out and vote today.
you have no voice if you don't vote - in which case the only person taking your political voice away from you is you...a political voice hundreds of thousands of Americans have died to ensure that you have.
if you honestly think that your vote doesn't matter, then there is no polite way for me to finish this sentence.
you like the way the country is running? then vote to keep it that way. you don't like the way the country is running. then vote for change. in either case, remember that it's highly likely that other people won't agree with you. that doesn't make you smart and them dumb, or you dumb and them smart. nor does it mean there is some vast, somethingwing conspiracy afoot because whatever you wanted didn't play out. it simply means that people are individuals and don't always agree, and that this is a representative democracy. don't be an ass about it.
elected officials work for you. you are "The People." if those elected officials that work for you aren't doing what you want, then bloody well tell them that.
finally, keep in mind something

Mmm, Viggo. I picked up a book a few weeks ago with a pretty picture on the cover, and flipped it over to read the back, and in small print at the bottom it said: "Photo by Viggo Mortensen". Heh.
