The way I read the story, they were hopeing to turn this into a huge, ongoing media event, ideally being portrayed as some sort martyrs and inspiring other groups to stage similar stunts. As it is, everyone I've talked to, including some die-hard democrat doves think that they're just a bunch of idiotic vandals. If they (or any like-minded group) is stupid enough to try to do it again, I imagine that they will get arrested and nobody will blink.
