this makes me sad:

Over at the Angry Left site Daily Kos, a poster named WinSmith spends some 1,300 words explaining that he's really quite indifferent to Snow's condition:

Are we better than they are? Of course we are. Theirs' [sic] is a movement so morally bankrupt that they'll send more American troops to die in a civil war because they can't even admit to themselves they made a mistake.

On that most profound issue, life and death itself, they don't care. If you think we can somehow convince them that we're not who their propaganda empire tells them we are, you're wrong.

So again, let me be crystal clear about this. I am not happy Tony Snow has cancer. I'm just not praying for him.

He's not in my "thoughts." I have no empathy for him. He has been an accomplice and an apologist for a failed political movement that has unleashed tremendous pain and upheaval on this planet.

I will save my emotions for those who deserve it.

what did Tony Snow do other than be a Republican? what does politics have to do with empathy for a fellow human being, and how narrow-minded and petty are you if it does?

people can compartmentalize themselves so much that they insist they will not think about another human being because of his stripe. this to me is the ultimate in selfishness, because it shows that any person they are not in the same room with [perhaps not even then] is an abstraction to them, and not worthy of their interest. as an abstraction they can decide on some thinking level if they should believe or not, if they should care or not. they cry as crocodiles. this carries forward for them to iraq, and elsewither. the iraqi is an abstraction to them, they do not care what will become of her when our armies fly home. indeed they wish to use her pain to punish a president for making choices they did not, but they do not care about HER. I am not blind to the fact that wars are difficult, that we may never know if this war was best prosecuted in some other way, or not at all. what matters is that you cannot go back, and you cannot raise the dead. you can try, however. in a part of the world where strength is respected, it is also possible that doing what you say you will do is regarded as strong. we have already failed the iraqis before, it may be our undoing to not see it through now. seeing something through does not make for schedules, or powerpoint charts. it always appears to be the hard way, until you see how hard the hard way is...

IMHO, and just screaming into the wind ;)

there's a link at LGF to comments at the WaPo site about Snow. people were actually wishing the man dead and blaming the President for their hatred. gods forbid anyone should take responsibility for their own petty bullshit.
