don't anyone dare argue to me now that Paris Hilton ISN'T being punished because of who she is. just.don't.

the LA County Sheriff, who has authority over who he can release from his jail was overridden by the judge, AND THEN HER REDUCTION OF SENTENCE WAS CANCELLED??????????? BECAUSE OF CIRCUMSTANCES OUTSIDE OF HER CONTROL?????????? W.T.F???????? the judge just punished her because he can't punish Baca.

way to suck up space at the jail so they can't, you know, HOUSE ACTUAL FUCKING CRIMINALS.

i hope she sues, and i hope she wins.

is she a git? sure. but that doesn't mean the justice system gets a free ride to fuck her over out of petty jealousy.

you have no idea what it's like trying to book a suspect and YOU.CAN'T. because THERE.IS.NO.ROOM.

you have no idea what it's like trying to explain TO.A.VICTIM why the suspect in their case got released earlier than the trial.

and you know what actually pisses me the MOST off?????? the fact that i now care about this bullshit case.

yuppers. this thing has been a CF all the way around, and there is no way around it now. I doubt the law and order group has noticed how bad this looks, from every angle. I also doubt that she has learned anything about taking responsibility in the first place...

and to top it all the fine taxpayers are going to get stuck with some hefty bills.

seems like the judge and the sheriff don't communicate much...
have you guys gont to outside tents yet? They are doing that a bunch here, because every INS raid puts a twist in holding...

tents. niiiiiiiiice. we aren't a holding facility, so all of our arrestees go to SB County's jail, and they kick people loose all the time to make room. we've booked folks before and found out they were out that same day - not on bail, mind, but released on their own recog, specifically because they are minor offendors and sucking up space.

ex: a guy gets a ticket for driving suspended. doesn't go to court, ticket goes to warrant. we happen to stop them, hook 'em on the warrant and book 'em at the jail. jail boots them a couple of hours later. why? because someone driving on a suspended license shouldn't be taking up valuable space at the jail. we towed their car when we hooked 'em so it's not like they can immediately go out and do it again.

is it a serious offense with potential serious ramifications? sure. is a jail cell the solution? not a chance. there needs to be something in the middle that allows law enforcement and the justice system to hold these people accountable in a way that doesn't impede the Sheriff's legitimate duty to house actual threats to the public safety.

i'm just livid that the judge circumvented the Sheriff's authority, and i don't know how that's not illegal.

I also doubt that she has learned anything about taking responsibility in the first place...

i'm going to disagree. i think people project onto her intentions and thoughts that have no basis in fact but are based on perceptions of who she is based on media reports - because we all now how accurate the media is, much less the rag media.

it's not her fault she was born an heiress, and it's not her fault that said status put her into a whole different world than the rest of us, with its own sets of rules and values, or the lack thereof.

she's being punished because she's rich. and that's bullshit. any *other* person who had done the same thing would have been released after a few days also, because the jail doesn't have the room for offenders like her, and NO ONE would have batted an eye. which is as it should be.

i have no problem with her original sentence. sometimes people have to learn important lessons the hard way, and when you live a life of privilege you might not get the grounding that the rest of us smucks do. so fine, sentence her because she ignored the law and then move the fuck on.

the precedent that this asshat judge has set is deeply, deeply problematic.

I went to high school with a hotel heiress, and she had the same values and morals that any normal wealthy person from my neighborhood has. Paris chose to be a party hopping 14 year-old. She could have stayed home and studied. She could have used her money and status to have a theater acting career like the girl I know. She isn't the way she is because she has so much money. She's the way she is because she has decided that the world owes her everything she ever wanted. I'm sure the parents are to blame. But the money isn't.

(Celebutants are to young actresses/wealthy youngsters as those girls in the trashy clothes who hang out in the town bar are to decent young people in a small town. It bugs me when people excuse her behavior as being a result of the world she lives in or being an heiress. It's a choice. For every Britney Spears there's a Mandy Moore.)

all very valid, but it still doesn't justify what the judge just did. the distinction, at least to me, is crucial. justice is supposed to be blind, and bias, no matter the direction, is still bias. it's no less fucked up that she is getting punished because she's rich, than if she weren't getting punished because she was rich. they're both wrong.

Oh no, that wasn't on the topic of the incarceration. I honestly don't know enough about the finer points of what goes on in this sort of case to really comment on that. Though, the point about impounding a car doesn't really make a difference in Paris's case. She could have many cars impounded and go right out and drive again. That is a difference.

That was more about my rant about people wanting to make Paris seem like such a different person than you or I. And she is, but that's because she's a self-entitled moron, not because she's an heiress. Because the girl I know isn't like her at all, and I know middle class girls with a lot of Paris's attitude and clubbing problems.

i wasn't using the car as an example for her, simply an example in general of how Joe Citizen would be treated, given the same set of circumstances.

That was more about my rant about people wanting to make Paris seem like such a different person than you or I....

totally. she's a git because she's a git. she just happens to be buttass wealthy. the petty vindictiveness of some people's reactions pisses me the frak off. they're not mad because some stupid little girl was suspended, got probation, ignored probation and got a slapupsidethehead jail sentence and she cried about it. their mad because she's rich and they aren't.

maybe in Podunk, Iowa, someone's brother wouldn't get booted out of the county jail either under the same circs, but this is the LA County Jail, founding home of the Crips and the Bloods. you'd better fucking believe they boot little girls like Paris out. they don't have the time or the room, and jail is serious biznez.

I felt at first she should suck it up, marine, but now I think they're using her as a pawn in a fight between the sheriff and the judge. If the judge truly wanted papers stating what her mental health problem was, then her doc should have had them ready. They should know this. I didn't think it was much of a punishment to be sent home, though, wg, where she could continue to live lavishly. I don't know the answer but I do think now she is being used unfairly. I think she was being taken to a place where her health can be monitored for a few days to determine her mental state. Poor little rich girl. I feel sorry for her now, but I don't think it will change her, only make her more cynical. jmo

again, though, it's not her fault that she's rich, and it is illegal, and socially vindictive, to punish her because of that. it doesn't matter what her house looks like; house arrest is house arrest.

I feel sorry for her now, but I don't think it will change her, only make her more cynical. jmo

and i don't think any of us can say, really. i mean, not even me. we don't know her and we're not there.

ps: I went back and reread what you replied to David and I agree she's being played in the media because she's rich BUT, I think she plays that up, too. She IS a git. She and her BFF Nicole and BFS LiLo and Britney are all gits, imho. But that shouldn't count into the equation. I believe your account of a usual term for someone with her charges (I was going to ask you anyway, for my own understanding). If some poor shmuck with the same charges would be released after a few days, so should she, but that should be explained to the general public, too, I think, to clarify she isn't getting special rich-person treatment. And I don't count her story of her not being told by her publicist that she couldn't drive. After 2 warnings, she herself, should have gotten the message LA was trying to tell her and she should take responsibility for ignoring them

i don't disagree except none of that is germaine to her crime.

ANY OTHER CITIZEN, having committed the exact same crime, and resultant disregarding behavior, would have been booted after a few days jail and gone on their merry.

THAT is the yardstick that matters, imho.

No, you're right: being a git doesn't count in the court system.

And that's exactly how I feel now: if some other person, with the same charges, would have been out in a few days, so should she. End of circus.
