Jun. 28th, 2007 04:32 amDear Jackass...
:::pauses:::
:::re-reads::: "NBC/Universal general counsel Rick Cotton suggests that society wastes entirely too much money policing crimes like burglary, fraud, and bank-robbing when it should be doing something about piracy instead."
:::thinks:::
nope, yeah, i was right the first time....
Deeeear Jackass,
given that you don't actually, you know, work in law enforcement, i would argue that the victims of the crimes you consider so meaningless, ie: "Our law enforcement resources are seriously misaligned," Cotton said. "If you add up all the various kinds of property crimes in this country, everything from theft, to fraud, to burglary, bank-robbing, all of it...", probably don't give a rat's ass about your so-called bigger problem, and would in all likelihood suggest you try removing your head from your ass, because it might help you avoid saying stupid shit like: "...it costs the country $16 billion a year. But intellectual property crime runs to hundreds of billions [of dollars] a year," in the future.
you're an attorney working for a client that makes billions of dollars a year. everyday victims that lose their entire life's savings, or their identity, or their cars, or their hard-earned money, or the computer rig they spent 2 years saving for don't really care about your whining, selfish, greedy, pissant, self-absorbed point of view. they would tell you, i'd wager, that you should advise your client to quit criminalizing its audience, stop being ignorant luddites too stubborn to alter their business models because technology is changing consumption methodolgies, and to get some perspective. while you're at it, maybe tell them to have a coke and a smile and shut the fuck up.
no love in any way whatsoever,
me

Date: 2007-06-28 12:27 pm (UTC)cops should just tell her to STFU, her heirlooms worth $2000, and her personal trauma, just don't amount, because Britney or Snoop Dog or some Exec at Paramount can't buy that third summer home in Monaco because EVIL PIRATES have "stolen" so much more money from them.

Date: 2007-06-29 12:36 am (UTC)While I am always one to think about and understand intellectual property, the values of it is the theoretical value of potential profit. Besides which, SOFTWARE piracy is far more rampant, and damaging, and yet oddly not talked about in the same way.
everytime I think these guys wont surprize me, they do. again.
