John Leo fisks the MSM's 'emotional truth' argument.

If anyone ever starts a museum of horrible explanations, the one-liner by Newsweek's Evan Thomas about his magazine's dubious reporting on the Duke non-rape case — "The narrative was right but the facts were wrong" — is destined to become a popular exhibit, right up there with "we had to destroy the village to save it."

haven't read the article yet, but just off the top of my head, wouldn't "emotional truth" be considered perspective??

running to read it now

they're trying to argue that because they've gotten the "emotional truth" of a narrative right then it doesn't matter that they are intentionally withholding, ignoring or distorting the facts.

as in, "gee, isn't racism and white priviledge horrible?". well, yes, racism and entitlement are things everyone should fight against but, as in the case of the Duke non-rape case, there wasn't any racism or "white priviledge" involved, so, you know, completely making shit up doesn't cut it.
