maybe i'm naive, but i think that winning a 200k plus expenses judgment against a single mother of 2 that makes 36k a year is only gonna piss people off MORE, and ignite a Robin Hoodesque sort of retaliatory behavior on the part of music downloaders. the RIAA is going the way of the dinosaurs and everybody knows it but them. i could feel bad about that, and yet......

Absolutely. These are the same parents that whine at their kids to behave. The same kids I expect to see not respecting their fellow man, or in jail because everything is owed to them.

I read something in wired about how the number of ill-downloaders has tripled since 2003 when the RIAA started this gig, so that lies much about the dissuasion factor. What I found difficult and chilling is that it seems some of the evidence rules seem shallower than I expected...

Wired

McMegan wrote something about how she retroactively hates Sonny Bono for pushing through the legislation on copyright years ago. I can see copyright of 10 or 20 years... but 95? that fuels in part what the RIAA does simply by making that right a business right and not the individuals right:

Sonny Bono

I mean I understand some of the ramifications to children and so forth, but really, if it's to pass into the public domain at some point, why so ling?

what Bono did was nothing less than an abomination.

I'm thinking of setting up a TOR server, or maybe I'll join a darknet...

I mean, I just spent about $90US on the special collection of Radiohead's new album because I believe in supporting them. And I'll almost always buy a CD (sometimes several) when I go to a concert.

But give more money to the RIAA and its members, after their bullying, their backwards thinking, and now this? Yeah, no...
