Protect the children, huh? More like wrap them in cocoons until they emerge as fully-formed, psychologically-approved adults that will never encounter the faintest emotional distress or be required to deal in any way with reality.

Why should we train children to interact with other people at all? Just hook everyone up to VR and automate the world. No contact, no pain, no physical or mental stimulation of any kind - and yeah, the world will be so much safer then.

Bah!

except for the part where they will be deeply emotionally unstable and have no strength nor character, nor any coping skills whatsoever.

Gah??? I really do not understand people.

If a parent doesn't want her child reading a certain kind of book, then she should screen the kid's reading herself. Not expect the library/bookstore/government to do it for her.

um, except for the part where you can't make everyone else do what you want without the government...

this is all about control after all. I has nothing to do with saving children. It has everything to do with controlling everyone.

We could lock the happy ending people in a room with the people who want to ban Harry Potter. That should keep both groups away from the rest of us who just want to sit down and read.

Y'know, some people are so fuckin' stupid they defy all definition.

I refer to this type of person as an "Oprah lady", Oprah ladies being the women who go to the Oprah tapings and are absolutely horrified when they hear Oprah/guests talking about the unpleasant things going on in the world. (Hello! Where have you been all your lives?)

this pisses me off so much. what makes them think they have the right to ban something they don't like that the rest of us may enjoy...and that doesn't hurt anything!!!
