first week on the new job just ended. tired. groovy, though. very deeply groovy.

just woke up - i'm disturbed that 10:15am is now sleeping in for me - to see the truck tunnel fire on the 5 in Santa Clarita. o_0

fires still aren't out and the collision that triggered the clusterfuck happened around 11 pm last night. :::worries for injured::: they think the freeway may be structurally unsound now. i drive that way to the new job, and drive it back and forth all day *for* the new job.

LA PEOPLE, BE CAREFUL ON THE ROADS THIS WEEKEND. the domino effect is going to be gnarly, i expect. and any of you know if there's a "back way" to Santa Clarita that isn't freeways? i don't know that area well enough. oi.

off to a shower and then into LA to day play on an AFI film shoot. have a lovely weekend all.

the new job is much fun. it's essentially the buy/returns aspect of the art dept, only with costume it doesn't involve the heavy lifting of furniture. :D

the film shoot was a short for a first year AFI project; i only did it to work with the art director, which was very good, yes. he does commercial work, which pays LOADS more than film and tv. and in just the two days i worked with him, i picked up a bunch of interesting techniques for adding texture to walls, so that was groovy.

we had a great time on set yesterday and i'm positive i just walked away with an awesome contact.

reading the websites, looks like they're detouring everybody on to the 14, and then they're taking side streets around santa clarita to get back to the freeway...

i'm gonna skip the 14, i think, and just exit the 210/5 interchange and take The Old Road up.

i hadn't posted it here, i don't think. i scored a production assistant job on the F/X tv show "The Riches", with Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver.

i work with a really awesome group in the costume dept. they made my first week totally rock the house, and my direct boss is the bomb.

a few days after the pd kicked me to the curb, a buddy that works props/set dressing [he's union] called me for a day playing PA job for the show. i took it naturally, and basically it was moving all the stuff out of 4 storage rooms and consolidating it - and keeping it all separate - into one room because Construction had to knock a bunch of walls down on the sound stage in order to shift the standing sets over and do some other builds or something.

i guess the Production Coordinator really liked my work cuz when the PA that costume originally hired didn't work out [how hard is it????], the Costume Supervisor hit up the Production Coordinator for suggestions and she gave my name. sure it didn't hurt that i'd left her my business card. :D

it's only $120 a day, but i get mileage, which is huge, and a company phone since we're talking to each other so much during the day. pays every week too. :D they also reimburse for lunch if i'm on the road and miss lunch at the production office, and there's "craft" set up all day, which is snacks, bagels, cereal, fruit, coffee/tea, etc, that's always up. if the show is shooting in the studio - and the production offices are in the same building - then we get hot and cold running catered food all day, too. that doesn't suck.

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! PA! That is made of awesomesauce! I knew you would land on your feet running! It will lead to bigger and better things, no doubt.

Eddie Izzard!!! He's fucking hilarious. I love his stand-up stuff. Didn't realize he was in a series. I am setting up the PVR. ;)

Congrats again! (((HUGS)))

it has been so far. it has its moments of frustration as i'm still learning everything and i know squat about high fashion retail, but as i catch on it's a blast.

fashion? fashion? we don't need no stinkin' fashion! seriously, you should call me for fashion info. My mom was in the business before she was my mom and it rubbed off. not exactly helpful in the business i'm actually in, but that's because you can only do so much with stripped pants:-)

outstanding on the new gig. wish i had cable so i could watch. big ups to you,

tdr

:::laughs::: yes, it is.

the bummer is the upcoming strike, though, in terms of rolling this over into another paying job. they're currently projecting it for April 1st - yes, apparently the irony escapes them all - and depending on how long it will last, that makes things dodgy. but we'll see how it goes. i've got this gig till february...

and the short last night was with the art director contact i'd recently made and we both hit it off great and did some kickass work together, so that relationship feels quite solid now.

the accident happened about 4 hours after i got off work, so yeah, *whew*...although i don't ever take the truck tunnel. i'm surprised that passenger cars do, actually.
