dear WGA, you're killing me. please stop?
Jan. 10th, 2008 01:48 pmHi.
so the Guild just sent out a PRESS RELEASE announcing theircomplete obtuseness awards show will be going forward. To call myself stunned, speechless and enraged is beyond an understatement.
the public relations NIGHTMARE that will unleash from this may not be reparable. so, this post.
i'm asking that you, AND EVERYONE YOU CAN THINK TO ASK, email both Patric Verrone and David Young at the Guild, right.now.
i'm hoping that you will convey to them that even an untelevised awards show is COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE during the strike. the Guild has, and i believe rightly so, worked to get Hollywood's hail to ourselves, don't we rock awards shows either tremendously scaled back or stopped. i believe in that action. i helped argue *for* that action. now is the time to be serious. this is NOT the time to have a party, however low key. WE WANT THE WRITERS BACK TO WORK. THAT'S WHERE YOU[the Guild] NEED TO FOCUS YOUR ATTENTION. the arrogance and hypocrisy that will be perceived by this action will be DIFFICULT TO UNDO.
please think about sending an email right now. be your most respectful, eloquent and persuasive.
Patric can be reached at pverrone@wga.org
David can be reached at dyoung@wga.org
thanks.

Date: 2008-01-10 10:58 pm (UTC)Rebecca,
Thanks for your e-mail. What we typically call a show this year will be limited to our announcing the winners. Unless we get a contract which, as you say, is our primary focus.
Best,
Patric M. Verrone
Sirs,
Please consider not indulging in an awards ceremony while boycotting the Golden Globes, etc. It might look like gloating, which doesn't seem like the right image to project. Please focus your efforts on trying to keep negotiations going, so all of your guild members and the other industry workers who keep Hollywood going, can go back to work with the assurance of a good deal for you all.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Rebecca
