catching up thoughts
Feb. 24th, 2008 06:09 pmCaptain's Quarters on Obama....to which i reply, yep, what he said.
it's not the government's job to fix my soul. it's not the government's business to posit on the state of my soul. the government's job is to run the secular country. my soul is between me and whatever deity i may or may not believe in, so all due respect Michelle, but you might want to go back and read - or re-read - the Constitution, especially that little bit about the separation of church and state. your huband is a guy running for president; don't confuse that for anything else, k? cuz, really, he'd suck at it and the job's already taken.
and then there's this bit about professors and their choice of attire" to which i reply, maybe ya'll should be concentrating on how they teach, not what they wear doing it, ffs.

Date: 2008-02-25 03:08 am (UTC)heh. I had to laugh about the proposed dress code for women professors:
1. Avoid poufy sleeves.
2. Dress frumpily.
3. Act like an old fart.
1. check. I do this for safety reasons anyway, as poufy sleeves tend to fall in acid baths and flip petri dishes of valuable rock bits that I am looking at under microscopes.
2. hmm... i suppose star trek and x-files t-shirts don't count as frumpy. though, perhaps this explains scully's clothing choices...
3. old fart? nope. i'm bringing toy dinosaurs to class tomorrow.
I suppose these people should also consider that, at least where I am, nearly half of the teaching staff ARE NOT ON TENURE TRACK, are simply asked to teach to help out the smaller departments (like me) and couldn't give a rat's ass to their attire, particularly considering teaching is not my primary responsibility, research is. And I am NOT subjecting my good clothes to acid burns, isopropyl alcohol and enough rock dust to choke a goat.
