arguments about religion in and of itself aside, God forbid, you should tell kids that the world is a scary, dangerous place, and humans rather frequently engage in deeply horrific actions.

just when i think Organized Religions couldn't be more stupid and short-sighted.

when will adults learn?

since l was 1.5 she's been praying "Thank you, God for my family and for the food and for Jesus dying on the cross." with the follow up questions, "Who made us?", "Who died on the cross?", "Did he stay dead?" and "Where is he now?"

I fully get that some people will find that creepay, but she isn't traumatized by the idea, she isn't being taught exactly how brutal crucifixion is yet. We don't go into detail about how humiliating and hellish that is because that would traumatize a 3 year old. She just knows he died and rose again.

ditto. and kids MUST be taught the concept of death. no one's doing them any favors by not.

yeah, the current climate ain't one of nuance... small children don't comprehend the bigger words... but that doesn't mean you shouldn't say them. I think this is why a lot of churches actually do their own lessons. It helps if you have parents and kisds on the same page, because then the parent gets to illuminate, and also decide what is appropriate. Publishing houses are simply not flexible enough... on the other claw, it is true that a lot of people want a shiny happy religion that says little about the bad parts... or the scary parts, or the inconvenient parts... :shrug:
