this is what you get when neither the prof, nor the student respects each other. but 'cha know... usually it's the prof as the elder and more experienced human that gets to figure this out... and not by that passive aggressive canceling class for everyone. WTF? Is it against the rules to confront one student? I had a great physics prof, who yould let you sleep for about 10 mins, before waking you up. He said he figured if he was that boring, or you were that tired, that was the best option... Dunno what he'd do about cell phones... maybe sit next to you and look over your shoulder.

But I had a philosophy course once, where the prof was an egotistical bastage, and I could see him pulling a stunt like this. I can tell you I tweaked him at every turn. I'm not sure why he didn't fail me... at the time I though it was because I was right, but then I was an insufferable bastage then too.

I'd be willing to bet that the prof thinks he running some kind of experiment on the human animal...

He's a twit, in my opinion. I have students using their laptops, I have students that text on their cell phones, I have students that chat throughout my lecture. It doesn't stop me from talking to the 5-10 student i *KNOW* are paying attention, and it doesn't stop me from asking very pointed questions on my exams so that those paying attention get full credit.

that guy is stupid! i've never had a professor leave class because of cell phones or txt msging, but i've had professors threaten to flunk people who's phones ring during class after issuing multiple requests during that class session to turn phones off or set them on vibrate. and that was a small class.
