so our resident geek digital tools guy is re-doing our asset management system. from scratch. aside from the fact that i love him for getting rid of the system that SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO didn't work, he just always makes reviewing screencaps fun.

it may as well have been. it really was rather a perpetual nightmare. not a bad idea, but seriously HORRIFIC customer non!service, in that the "out of the box" system does essentially nothing without modification.

The old one's infrastructure and client-side stuff was maintained by a dude who was not, by any estimation, a database programmer, data warehousing expert, or a VFX pipeline TD, or an even minimally socialized human being in general. But he was pals with the VFX supe and the head of production, so...

If anyone can actually write one from the ground up solo, it's the pipeline tools guy at T's office.
