"Leverage" on TNT
Dec. 21st, 2008 05:11 pmjust watched the pilot ep because it had the fantastic allure of Gina Bellman. it also stars Timothy Hutton and Christian Kane [he of Angel fame], which were initial draws as well.
if Corporations are Ev0L and TOTALLYZOMGTEHANTICHRIST is your belief system, then this show will feed you nicely. if not, then you'll find it slick, amusing and mostly entertaining but ultimately, and sadly, trite and pedantic.
a shame, really.
where Hustle goes after individuals as their targets - the writers apparently being wise enough to recognize that institutions and corporations and governments are only a collection of individuals after all, and that a solid story trumps all - Leverage suffers from the long-standing Hollywood disease of feeling the compulsory need to lecture its audience with The One True Dogma, and being as subtle about it as a train wreck.
bored now.

Date: 2008-12-22 03:19 am (UTC)the audience are not children, and Hollywood is *not* anyone's parent or teacher. they're entertainers, and if they want to be good at it - and be honest about it - they should focus on good storytelling and not beating the audience over the head with Hollywood's version of THE TRUTH...whatever that may be at any given moment.
capitalism is not the downfall of humanity, and i find the argument naive and tiresome...and from Hollywood, no small amount of hypocritical.
