saavy readers will recall our contact with said archive when a gasket was blown.

could it perhaps be that the archivist is unable to use auto-archive, a nifty process where the fic authors code and submit their own stores, because, well, the archivist still isn't asking for permission to archive fic? hmmmmmmmmmm. inquiring minds want to know.
