i am beside myself with joy. i loathe Kelley's writing. just loathe it. and the thought of US audiences being denied the brilliance of the original, being denied the strange, seductive beauty of John Simm, and the gruffy attraction of Phillip Glennister, and the sweet sexiness of Liz White was just KILLING ME. seriously. the idea that the only way they would know the title Life on Mars would have been from a US adaptation was just, pun fully intended, fucking criminal. and worse, i think, was the feeling that Kudos had somehow sold out to Hollywood.
this is a relief like, whoa.

BBC America has seen off competition from US cable networks including A&E and AMC to scoop the rights to Kudos drama Life on Mars.
The news comes just a day after BBC Worldwide America revealed Ally McBeal producer David E Kelley will make a version of the show for US terrestrial network ABC.
However, before the new version is made, viewers in North America will have the opportunity to view the original 8 x 60-minute BBC1 series via the corporation's own US cable network.
The news is a boost to BBC America, which has faced strong competition for other high profile BBC dramas in recent months.
It was unable to purchase other hit Kudos dramas Hustle and Spooks, which were sold to AMC and A&E respectively.
It also lost out on the US rights to Doctor Who, which was bought by the Sci-Fi Network.
Life on Mars is created and written by Matthew Graham, Tony Jordan and Ashley Pharoah. It is a Kudos production for the BBC, with executive producers Jane Featherstone and Matthew Graham.
BBC America is distributed by Discovery Networks and is available on digital cable and satellite TV.
