that, is why you fail. /Yoda
you not recognizing that those two statements are utterly contradictory, and you not recognizing that blocking the other party at every turn is not a legitimate party platform is why you got your asses kicked in November. it has nothing to do with the so-called religious conservative vote, which hadn't increased in numbers from the previous election. it was average Americans sick of the bullshit and wishing their representatives would actually, you know, represent *them*.
Soderberg: There's always hope that this might not work.[Lebanon and the Middle East.]
hey guys? get off my side, mmkay? thanks. because legitimately hoping a country's attempt to throw off their oppressors will fail because of your politics is bullshit. that kind of person doesn't deserve to live in this country. seriously. i hear Cuba's nice this time of year, and you know, they have 100% literacy.
Dear Democratic Party Elite,
get it the fuck together. this country well and truly needs you. seriously.

Date: 2005-03-03 04:35 am (UTC)yes! and PLEASE DO. no one is always right about everything all the time. the country needs discourse, needs healthy differing opinions, needs people from different viewpoints pointing out what they see as flaws, because how else does it get fixed, or adjusted, or better handled, or more equally represented?

Date: 2005-03-03 08:40 am (UTC)It's exhausting. I spent my days now trying to convince supporters and donors that it's worth it to believe in a Democratic Party that has LET YOU DOWN year after year. And we've realized -- in recent weeks, only -- that a serious shift to the left is the only way to reassert ourselves as the party FOR ideals, as opposed to being defined as just "not the other guy." Naming Howasrd Dean as our chair was a step in the right direction, and people like Barbara Boxer are coming forward and representing. We do have, however, lots and LOTS of work to do. And I'm scared -- as scared as you are, as scared as most folks are -- that we won't get our asses in gear in time. That we'll sell out to moderation AGAIN.
And I just -- I think of Kathy Bates in Primary Colors. Year after year, term after term, putting all my hope in the POSSIBILITY of a Democratic Party that stood up for what *I* believe in, and year after year, being disappointed. I'm tired. We're tired. But like an idiot, I keep throwing in with 'em and HOPING this time it'll be different. This time it will be the Jed Bartlet REAL THING.
