I know there's disease, but I'm not talking about that issue. Just pregnancy. It irks me seeing stories about teenagers going at it and not thinking about potential kids. Why does it irk me so? I went to a magnet high school, and one of the programs was for the moms or mommies-in-progress (some girls had 2 or 3 kids.. and I only knew one that had twins). Real life hits you hard when you're LITERALLY sitting next to a breast-feeding mom.

But what would be the point? Even assuming a modern-day fic where all of these things are available, unless you're planning a gag scene involving a Nuvaring getting tangled or something, it really doesn't make much of a difference.

Is your female character's allergy to latex going to end up becoming a plot point? Is she having wild personality issues because of Depo Provera? No? Then I don't see how her gynecological decisions are worth telling the reader about.

What people seem to forget is that it's FIC, not real life, and in the best case scenario shit is mentioned for a character/plot reason in fic, not just for afterschool special righteousness. Sheesh.
