Apr. 16th, 2007 01:37 pm32 confirmed dead at Virginia Tech this morning.
amidst the grief and confusion, there is a, possibly instinctual, need to blame; instinctual perhaps in that it stems, i think, from a need for answers, for an explanation in the face of useless, inexplicable tragedy. what will get thrown out first, of course, is "GUN CONTROL!!!!!! GUN CONTROL!!!!!!!! THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN IF THERE WAS GUN CONTROL@@@@@@@@@@!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111."
consider:
1. bad guys don't traditionally get their weapons through lawful means.
2. the District of Columbia has the strictest gun control laws in the Nation. it also has the highest homicide rate.
3. if concealed carry permits were allowed on campus, someone may have had the opportunity to double tap that worthless fuck and lives could have been saved.
comments are closed. i'm not in the mood for debate, however well intended and/or reasoned.
my thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of those involved.
eta: nods of wisdom to c and b, for pointing out that i'd actually *not* disabled my comments correctly. go me. hugs them.
