oh yay. cnet's reporting that the head of the EPA may have squashed a 98 page report that called global warming into doubt.

cnet is reporting.

not the MSM, but the tech site. genius.

"...After reviewing the scientific literature that the EPA is relying on, Carlin said, he concluded that it was at least three years out of date and did not reflect the latest research. "My personal view is that there is not currently any reason to regulate (carbon dioxide)," he said. "There may be in the future. But global temperatures are roughly where they were in the mid-20th century. They're not going up, and if anything they're going down..."

"...Carlin's report listed a number of recent developments he said the EPA did not consider, including that global temperatures have declined for 11 years; that new research predicts Atlantic hurricanes will be unaffected; that there's "little evidence" that Greenland is shedding ice at expected levels; and that solar radiation has the largest single effect on the earth's temperature."

and don't even get me started on Waxman-Markey. possibly my favorite part is where no one read it because it doesn't actually exist as passed by the House.

lawmakers that did not read the bill and voted in favor of it should be charged with negligence. you can't pass a bill you haven't read. you.haven't.read.it.

run, run, run as fast as you can...

I just DON'T get it. I'm a fair minded man But ramming through this that and something else without taking the time to actually deliberate? They have done that this whole session. And the laws they are crafting are STOOPID for that reason. Cash for clunkers? Sure unless they are older than 1985 Why would you even PUT a limit on the age? a '75 ford f250 gets far worse mileage and sends out more pollutants than an '85 f250. The law of unintended consequences is going to be big with that one. After all, most people that own old vehicles, own them because of the pricepoint, they can't afford a new car anyway. Dunno, just not helpful.

Similarly with the cap and trade, and universal healthcare, and such. Apparently Massachesets mandetory health is being scaled back because they just don't have the money, and it is getting worse with the downturn. Univ Health is laudable, but the consequence of it is not being thought of at all. Added together with a stimulus that isn't working but is astoundingly expensive...

are people still buying this? I don't necessarily agree with the ideas, BUT the haphazard implementation and unintended consequences kill anything that might've worked.

yet, let's get it all over with quickly so we can see how bad it is. OI!

quashing docs at the EPA isn't especially new, but to do it so nakedly? They could have put the docs in there, and just said, well we think the evidence is more this way than that, end of story. I've been in that boat before, where daily reports of woe get rolled up to the big bosses and are happy faces when they get there. So, I went over people's heads. The bosses were shocked! that they had been wrong.

Course that was before I understood about managing an emergency. if everything is smooth sailing, nobody thinks you have to manage anything. If you overcome adversity, then you are truly good. So you start making things emergencies so that you can be seen to manage them...

hmmm, how much does that explain, fellow choir member?

they're doing it precisely because they know they're on borrowed time. and yes, your managing an emergency analogy is spot on. that's exactly what they're doing, and have been doing.

me and the roomie were just talking about how we can't figure how it's even procedurally allowed to vote on something without having had time to read and analyze it.

i was going to write to my senators expressing my strong opposition to Waxman-Markey until i remembered that my senators are Boxer and Feinstein, which makes me completely fucked.

Write them anyway. Use the same rules that we used when we were writing skiffy.

Even if it doesn't change their vote, they deserve to know what their constituents think.

At least you *have* two senators --glares at MN legislature
