A lot of my flist hated it, but mostly because they are devout Jack/Ianto shippers, and are pissed he's gone. (yes, I ship them, too, and am sad, but I agree that it was good RTD took a position, and stuck with it. Especially since it really added to the emotional trauma, and probable anchorlessness that Jack had to be feeling there at the end). Also, it cracks me up that people are mad Jack left. Like he can't just go for a jaunt around the universe, and then come back? Hello-he's done it before. I think a next season of Torchwood would be really cool, maybe focusing on the rebuilding, and what to do with Gwen with a kid if she's there, and how Jack reacts. (although I still don't like any actual Jack/Gwen. drives me nuts)
i loved that Jack left, and my favorite part of that was when Gwen says that he can't just runaway and he's all, "watch me." it was a perfect reaction on his part.
re Jack/Gwen...i don't ship them per se, but i do actually like that they're - at least on some level - attracted to each other. i've always loved that. but i don't think i'd like it if they became a couple, mostly because i love her relationship with Rhys, and how grounding that relationship is for both her and for Torchwood.
Oh, that totally was a perfect Jack reaction. Loved it.
I can see how you might like that. I just don't, for whatever reason. But I do love her relationship with Rhys, and totally love Rhys trying his best to help. He's a good guy.
What did you think of Andy? He seemed a bit less than intelligent here-or maybe he was always open and bumbling, but I didn't see it that much. Loved him in the end, though, throwing down with his fellow Welshmen.
red did the reaction post for the Torchwood3 comm and she said the reactions were pretty much split between folk like us and the folk who hated it.
i always find it fascinating how the perceptions can be so different between people. for me, the core of everything is story; i can buy just about anything if your foundational storytelling is solid.
They were split, eh? That's too bad. Although I do think some people are getting less bitchy about it-man some of the reactions initially were so not of the good. (I mean, really mean to one of the writers that has a blog. WTF? Seriously?) i can buy just about anything if your foundational storytelling is solid.
I really like the relationships, but there has to be a story. So maybe I agree with you? I've never really thought about it. Although it does seem that if a pairing I am really invested in is jacked, then it makes me cranky (I think maybe I wasn't so upset about Ianto dying because everyone dies early in Torchwood, Jack really needed to be in a bad place at the end, and I totally think Jack and the Doctor are good together.) Also, it's just a TV show.
What do you think of how Jack just stormed in there-precipitating the biological poison thing? When I first *thought* about it-as opposed to just watching-I thought it was kind of silly. However, that is kind of what Jack does, take things head on-and maybe he was a bit influenced by Ianto being disappointed in him with his actions in 1965. Also, they had no intel, so maybe that was going to be their only chance.
yeah, that's odd about the OCC claims. i felt it was totally in character, and there were plenty of eps where's it's foreshadowed in a lot of ways...the behavior i mean.
I thought for the most part all was in character. I'm not saying I'm not sad about where/how it ended, I am HUMAN after all, but I'm not surprised. Jack sacrificed EVERYTHING to save the human race. I could SOOOOO feel his pain and see him needing to go out into the universe to get his spirit refreshed.
We've seen Jack do anything from actually be a con man, to give a child to fairies, and we know he performed torture. I think people only looked at the cheerful/playful Jack, and ignored his very dark side/good side/what has to be done mentality. Also, to the people who were complaining about Jack actually knowing how to work the computers, and etc, um, hello, he worked on the TARDIS. The Doctor wouldn't let him anywhere *near* his baby if he didn't think Jack knew his shit. Toshiko did computer stuff because that was her job in Torchwood. Jack's job in Torchwood was to be the boss, and help out where needed.
