So many of those are why I think this whole hysteria about the health care system is shit. Also, we are so used to being preiveleged, there's NO WAY we'll accept the limits that need to be placed on public health care to make sure the costs don't go through the roof. Also, the taxes in places with socialized health care are so high, I really don't think people understand what it all means. Also, they've never had to work in one of those places, and have to have a patient wait for a year just to see a fucking dermatologist(personal observation), or several days for an xray(friends who live there). Also, doctors here have to PAY for our education. Anyone trying to tell me-on the low end, anyway because I'm a pediatrician-that they're going to give me LESS money can fuck off.
the obscene cost additions to health care because of the obscene costs to doctors for malpractice insurance. tort reform is the notion of going in and trying to clean that up.
and don't get me wrong, malpractice happens, and i don't know how to put financial "value" on a life. i don't know how to look a friend in the eye when he's just lost his wife and unborn child and tell him that maybe the dollar amount he's asking is too high. is it? no clue. how do you value losing your entire family, literally, by a hospital's mistake.
but those things should not, de facto, make it nearly impossible for doctors to practice.
it's like expelling an entire school of children because one child was an asshat. it doesn't solve the problem, and punishes a lot of innocents along the way.
right? and it's kids flown in from around the world to US hospitals to get cutting edge treatment that gives them quality of life, or hell, life at all.
the system isn't perfect. nothing is. and certainly nothing that large is. but this? is not the way to "fix" it.
