not that we don't already know that the power grid is vulnerable, but it was interesting that scientists were studying it in China, of all places.

Yes, yes, v. funny but it strikes me as another one of those hypothetical risk assessments that sound dramatic but turn out to be far-fetched in the extreme.
You'll note that the specific details about the required loading conditions have been omitted from the report. That's partly for security considerations but I suspect also partly because to reveal those conditions would underscore the unlikely nature of such an attack, especially when more straightforward attacks are readily available
