"That's it... and look upon this moment. Savor it! Rejoice with great gladness! Great gladness! Remember it always, for you are joined by it. You are One, under the stars. Remember it well, then... this night, this great victory. So that in the years ahead, you can say, 'I was there that night, with Arthur, the King!' For it is the doom of men that they forget. "

though, i think my favorite of his dialogue for the snark is probably, "You're not listening... well, your heart is not. Love is deaf as well as blind. That's it. "

his performance was so..almost whimsical. it gave a great sense of Merlin truly having half of himself in one world and half in the other.

what I thought most of this Merlin as played, is that Merlin was clearly not really human, kinda like Istari like Gandalf are not. That gives a unique perspective on what humans do...

yeah, totally. you especially get that sense from the wedding scene, when he and Morgana are off talking in the background.

I haven't watched that in decades. I'll have to dig it out again - thanks for reminding me of it!

i LOVE Excalibur. my criticisms of it are always relating to loving the world Boorman created so much that i wished there were more.

such as - and maybe this stuff was shot and cut for time but - he didn't *quite* have enough for most of the transitions that showed the passage of time and/or knowledge acquired. so, to me, it left parts of it feeling a wee choppy.

the world is just so lush, and one of my absolute favorite aspects of the film is all of the different accents. really made the world feel real, and tangible.
