Cinematical says new Avatar trailer washes away the skepticism. sure, it gives a proper plot layout, so, by that definition, then yes. but there's nothing about this film that is remotely appealing to me.

the animation is not "game-changing". it's really well done motion capture cg, if the trailer is any indication of quality. pretty, but not game-changing.

mostly, though, i have issue with the plot. i am so tired of Hollywood making the-US-military-is-evil-and-only-low-tech-indigenous-populations-are-worthy-and-only-a-lone-wolf-can-redeem-humanity stories. for fuck's sake, write something new.

anyone? anyone?

bueller?

eta: best snark i've seen online so far. i actually spewed tea on my monitor. *nods*

"The biggest influences are clearly the miniseries Roots and the movie Cool World. Not to mention the 1987 season of Days of our Lives."

nothing is new under the sun

it's like alien, only with sympathetic aliens.

i'd agree, except in "Alien" et al, the military were the heroes. it was the all-powerful corporation which was the bad guy, which, you know, i don't have a problem with.

all-powerful corporation exists because a government has gotten too powerful and abets the former to the advantage of the latter.

i don't even have a problem with re-examing a particular theme, but then, of course, that requires an *actual* re-examination, not just a re-tread of trope.
