tech gods, force fields and you
Jun. 14th, 2005 02:24 amwhy yes, our dsl is still down. why do you ask? oh, because it's been a month? i feel your pain.
thurs, early afternoon, after our dsl had been down for 3 weeks, spook called them and the very helpful and extremely embarrassed tech support guy found out that thefuckingbitch customer service rep that i spoke to never apparently put the re-order through. helpful guy stayed on the phone while spook tried not to blow a gasket at billing supervisor, who promised a 48-72 hour resolution. 72 hours was, wait for it, two days ago.
so today, thoroughly irritated at verizon because the dsl was still down and thoroughly irritated at charter because the cable was still down, i went to the local cable office where the nice ladies are friendly and don't suck, and said nice lady told me that my box was probably fried from when the service went down almost 2 weeks ago. yes, two weeks ago. making idle chatter, i share my dsl dilemma and she pitches cable dsl for a handy $26 bucks for the first six months. once the equipment is installed, service is active about 5 to 6 minutes later. niiiiiiiice. take my new cable box, modem and constructions, along with various cableage and splitter dren and home i go. drop it off, pick up the old box and return it to the cable office. i get back home and spook tells me that we still have no signal.
grrrr.
call the 800 customer service number and friendly guy tells us our house isn't getting a signal at.all. joyous. so now we wait for a tech guy to come out tomorrow between 1 and 5. if they don't fix it, i may just blow the house up. if i don't, i have no doubt that spook will.
and on top of that, did i mention the part where i went to make a phone call on my cell phone and got a "your service has been temporarily interrupted" message? no? it did. conveniently, i had just retrieved my bill from the mailbox, the one that isn't due for 10 more days, and called 611. friendly customer service rep apologized all over the place, was confused as all hell, and promptly restored my service.
certain companies are damn lucky that, contrary to what brilliant flashes of temper imply, i'm not prone to violence.

Date: 2005-06-14 05:45 pm (UTC)purely as an aside...did nice cable lady say something about fried box? the tech may have to cousteau upstream and discover that there is another fried box... not saying it will work or anything, but call them back and ask them to insert in the work order comments, that the fried cable box started this all off, and so you wonder if there are OTHAR problems upline. That way TechPerson can have the correct PARTS with them so that the repair will be TIMELY...
heh, now there's a concept... that and you might want to put a sacrifice on the equipment gods alter, cuz they're hungry...[it's where old calculators go to die]
luck, to you'se ;)
