is HUGELY pleased that Torchwood has been picked up by the Starz network. HUGELY pleased. though, a bit bummed being that Starz is, i'm fairly certain, a pay channel, and that Torchwood will apparently no longer air on BBCAm

congrats to BBC for making the deal.

Starz is a pay channel. BUT, it has streaming episodes available on Netflix that (for spartacus at least) were available the MORNING OF the standard evening first airing. You can have access to that for their 1 out at a time plan that's less than $10 a month.

i'd use more....off the grid...methods, so that's not a personal concern, per se, but more of a wondering about the reach of the audience issue.

while seeing RTD still attached gives me pause, since he's so enormously hit and miss, i'm pleased that they seem to want to take advantage of the expanded budget and give the show a more international scope and feel.

i loved COE. sure, there were aspects about it that bugged, and characters i will tremendously miss, but COE felt honest to me in its use, finally, of actions having consequences. i get that lots of folks may not see storytelling that way - or do, but really love a given character/relationship and don't want to see that impacted - but it gives depth to stories. imho of course.

it can certainly be overdone - Spooks i'm lookin' at you - but personally, i don't think it was. maybe because the story relationship that mattered most to me was Jack's interactions/character arc with Gwen. He *was* Torchwood, and she is the audience, and so it was compelling to me.

You think they'll do well? I'm worried bringing it to the US is going to mute it. But maybe not with a cable channel.

with all things entertainment, there's at least a 50/50 chance, and it's worth a watch at the very least.
