hey Verizon, you suck.
Jul. 5th, 2005 02:43 amas if denying us dsl for nearly a month wasn't enough. i just got a call from SBC, the company formerly known as Pacific Bell. she was calling from the Bay Area. one of my residents apparently dialed 9-1-1 and for some freaktastic reason the call routed to San Francisco PD. yes, you read that correctly.
dude is calling because he just attempted suicide. well, "just" in a relatively speaking kind of way. SF got the call at 0149 and i got the call at 0230. SBC called me directly because, after finding out the phone number was a Verizon customer and calling them, she was told by Verizon Security (the law enforcement access line) that they would not release the address of a SUICIDAL SUBJECT to them because SBC WAS A RIVAL PHONE COMPANY.
yes, you read that right.
so she called me and i did a reverse look up on the number and got an address. not in the mood to fuck with Verizon, or delay the call any further given the already way too long time lapse, i simply started units and rolled rescue. *after* my units got there and verified a male by the same name did live at the address, and *after* my units verified they were at the right house i called Verizon and yelled. the guy couldn't figure out what i was so pissed about.

Date: 2005-07-09 08:47 am (UTC)he didn't dial from a wireless. and do yourself a favor. program your local pd's number into your cell phone in case you use it instead of your landline phone for some reason. don't assume that wireless 9-1-1 routing is working. especially because, in Colorado, it ain't. California is the first state to have as many cities/counties with functional wireless routing as we do, and we're not close to finished with the roll out. my county, for example, doesn't have it yet...but CHP does, and the neighboring city which is in LA county does. when they transfer wireless calls to me, i lose the routing data because my system isn't functioning yet.
also, the new cellulars that are out have GPS installed to meet the FCC requirement from 94-102 to provide a handset solution to 9-1-1 routing. legacy phones, however, and that can be phones sold this year, do not have any kind of geo-locating in them and the providers have worked long and hard to provide a network based solution. the FCC ruling was very specific. it's also now branched to include VoIP.

Date: 2005-07-06 07:43 am (UTC)45 MINUTES?!?!?!?! I hope the guy is ok.
that just blows my mind, yet I'm not surprised.
I wonder if the FCC has a fine for that, it was an emergency situation. and the guy at verizon couldn't figure out why you were pissed. My goddess.
