grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Jul. 25th, 2005 09:44 pmthis stuff? drives me batty.
either trust the writers or don't, but do keep in mind something. it's not your personal show. they aren't writing the show to your specs, or to make you happy. they are telling their OWN story, to their specs, to make them happy. and sure, it's gotta find an audience or the point is moot, but first and foremost, they have to write the best story that they can, that they believe serves the story. you can either enjoy the ride or not. and if you don't, that's groovy, but for frak's sake recognize the difference.
they are telling a very specific story about humanity, the nature of it, loss, love, war, trying to find your way on a path you can't see, actions and consequences. the threads are complicated because the world they've created is complicated. that's what gives it depth. that's what keeps it from being shallow.
also? can you not bitch about WHAT HASN'T EVEN AIRED YET? you have no idea how it's going to play out on screen. you can't even tell that when you're watching a scene filmed live. the context to the rest of the show is EVERYTHING. and you're wigging out based on a whole TWO AIRED EPS? you have NO IDEA how it's going to play out for the rest of the season.
and why are we all nutted up about her hair?????? wtf? it's HAIR for frak's sake.
i think what drives me the most batty, though, is the whole "how dare the producers/writers give in to the wishes of the actors!!!! oh noes!!!!!@@@"
cuz maybe the actors have good ideas? cuz maybe the actors know their characters, sometimes better than some of the writers, and cuz maybe some of the actors have ideas that the producers really like and take the characters places the producers really want to go? the medium is collaborative and the actors are not trained monkeys. they are thinking and feeling and nuanced and intelligent. the best of them spend their entire career honing their craft. there is no show without them. and while sometimes going in a direction that the actors want can end badly, especially if the actor isn't about the story but about themselves, you will never achieve something amazing if you aren't willing to take risks.

Date: 2005-07-26 11:24 am (UTC)There's enough to discuss and get into once canon has been established. I don't why anyone would want to actively worry about something that may or not happen.

Date: 2005-07-26 12:21 pm (UTC)i read this thread over at gateworld that was so mortifyingly stupid it was hysterical. a handful of folks were legitimately pissed off about Sheppard's hair, and even after it was explained to them that it's not a fashion thing but really how Flanagan's hair behaves [and my deep and abiding thanks to his hair for its wildness. *guh*]they still kept ranting about how unprofessional that was for someone in the military. i nearly laughed my spleen up.

Date: 2005-07-26 05:04 pm (UTC)ITA with you, Buggs, about the not spoiling because it would make me all angsty. But, even when you 'know' something, it never comes out how you think-it's all affected by the rest of the show. duh. Idiots.

Oh who is that young sinner with the handcuffs on his wrists?
And what has he been after, that they groan and shake their fists?
And wherefore is he wearing such a conscience-stricken air?
Oh they’re taking him to prison for the colour of his hair.
'Tis a shame to human nature, such a head of hair as his;
In the good old time 'twas hanging for the colour that it is;
Though hanging isn't bad enough and flaying would be fair
For the nameless and abominable colour of his hair.
Oh a deal of pains he's taken and a pretty price he's paid
To hide his poll or dye it of a mentionable shade;
But they've pulled the beggar's hat off for the world to see and stare,
And they’re taking him to justice for the colour of his hair.
Now 'tis oakum for his fingers and the treadmill for his feet,
And the quarry-gang on portland in the cold and in the heat,
And between his spells of labour in the time he has to spare
He can curse the god that made him for the colour of his hair.

Date: 2005-07-27 07:07 am (UTC)i'm really, really amused with the whole "IT'S NOT MILITARY LOOKING!!!!! OHMIGOD THAT'S INSULTING!!!!
unless they've changed drastically, regs are, iirc, 1/4" off the ears and the same off the collar. that's just about what his hair looks like now. i think only the hair touching his ears is outta regs. the harrypotterwildness that is the top and bangs is well within regs.
