i realize that the topic may turn a LOT of people off. too bad. i'm recc'ing it anyway. Stephen Bochco's new show Over There, airing on F/X, kicks major ass.

why?

no. politics.

it's about character. it's about people. it's about the craptastic, messy, sloppy, norightanswers situations that soldiers get into during a time of war.

so in that way? not different from BSG.

if you can put aside, if you have any, your issues about the war in Iraq, you will find another superbly well-done, beautifully shot ensemble show from the guy that brought Hill Street Blues to television.

F/X is running some back to back eps right now, for those of you on the Left Coast.

I really liked the first episode, and keep hearing nothing but good things about the series, but I had to change channels tonight when watching it (which had nothing to do with the war part of the story). Will totally tune in next week, though, and I've been told it just keeps getting better, and yeah, totally agree with you. Definitely a show to rec.

the scene with the girl in the backseat of the car? or, you had to change for not-show-related reasons?

Didn't even see that part. The reasons were kind'a not-show-related reasons, but had to do with two of the characters and how they treated other characters. In that sense, the show was too accurate, and despite my super high tolerance level for near everything in film/TV, I think I've found a chink in my cinematic/fictional armor. *g*

Still, great show. Will totally tune in next week, and can't wait to see where it goes.

yeah...there's an increased "button" factor when a show is done rilly, rilly well.

I didn't bother to take the time to watch it because I've read so many negative reviews from the milbloggers (Indepundit, Blackfive, Faces from the Front) but since you're recc'ing it, I'll take a look for myself.

i actually asked Ventura to watch it cuz i'm interested in his perspective.

i don't doubt that the mil!bloggers are like me, in that i can't frakking stand cop shows for the most part.

i intentionally didn't read any reviews of it because i wanted to catch it cold. it could turn out to suck but so far it's very intriguing.

I'd be interested to hear what Ventura says about it :)

I loved the line in the pilot "Don't call me Sir. I fight for a living."

Also I love that the guy who got a spiffy college degree and still enlisted is called "Dim" because he must not be too bright to do that.
